Weblogs, Inc. Selling Out

I was talking to a friend last night about a rumor heard about Weblogs, Inc., being sold to AOL. I stopped to think about what it would mean to blogging for a company that I watched launch and grow to be sold to a giant company like AOL. This morning when the news was announced I grinned a little and cheered the story. Obviously, blogs are not just a fad when the money starts changing hands. It must be time to take notice of the this thing some in the MSM are calling a fad. Fads don’t sell to companies for $35M.Weblogs, Inc. is a network of blogs written for the most part by professional bloggers. They are paid to blog about things they are passionate about. They enjoy what they write, and they get paid for their content. It’s actually a very easy to configure business model.Jason Calacanis is the brains behind the operation, and I have heard tell that the revenue derived from this advertising on this network will be in neighborhood of $1M this year. Not a small amount considering the number of blogs and the number of bloggers he employs. Granted, this blogging network has built itself from the ground up and has a very good reputation that it has garnered over time.Blogging networks are now popping up all over the internet and more and more bloggers are finding ways to compensate themselves for their passion of blogging. Some of the bloggers in the pool of bloggers at Bloggers For Hire are even now writing for some of these networks. In fact, I just recently posted on that blog about the hiring of a Blogmaster by Yahoo. Now is the time to get into the ground floor of a blogging career. The groundwork and foundation for the success of that path are now being forged. Businesses are beginning to see the importance of blogs in their marketing and public relations, and furthermore, companies are now budgeting for their advertising dollars to be put into advertising on blogs. This news is exciting and is causing quite a stir in the business and professional blogging communities. If you are interested in a blogging career as a professional blogger, or if you are a company interested in blogging, please don’t wait.
