Well, I don't "hate" IM - I just find it terribly intrusive and the federation issues are a constant PITA. I tend to IM mostly with folks in GTalk or Skype and ignore most of the other networks except when I have nothing to do (which rarely happens).

I use Adium on the Mac and Miranda on the PC to try to tie it all together but it's just another app to manage (x 2) and most of the folks I tend to chat with know they have a better chance of finding me on Skype than anywhere else these days.

And now they can keep up with me on a personal level via Twitter that really adds a new dimension ot my connectedness. My blog is not really a great place for me to discuss my personal goings on and maintaining a second blog is too much work (although I am experimenting with Vox which is doing some really nice social integration).

Chris: Wow that's a great idea. I just saw Steve Rubel say he like's Scoble's Twitters more than his blog! Shorter.

Thanks Marc. That is a common thread. "I hate IM, but love Twitter". It's almost like hanging out at a constant, global Web 2.0 party. With the open API I think some amazing stuff is going to come out of SXSW (lots of geeks in one location).

MikeD, lots of stuff written about it. Wander over to twitter.com and check it out.

Tris - your post really resonated with me. I'm also not sure what Twitter will end up "being" but the energy in the TwitterSpace is addictive and all my friends are there. I like this so much better than IM because of the one-to-many blog-like nature combined with the immediacy of IM when I feel like it.

Funny, because I was just writing up a request that Twitter integrate to my Flickr to allow me to say "I just posted something to my Flickr" and that translate automatically into a tinyurl. : )

Good points!
