Yesterday, I mentioned a post about A-List bloggers, and at the end I mentioned the word "brrreeeport". A made up word that Robert Scoble provided everyone to tag in a post and to mention for the purpose of a search engine test.
As a result of that mention, I looked over the stats for the latest 100 referrers to the blog for a period of time, and of the 100 referrers I looked at, Technorati was 25 of the referrals from the tag "brrreeeport". In this instance, Scoble increased my blog traffic by 25% as a result of his new Brrreeeport meme. Are blogs powerful or is it the blogger that is the power? In this particular instance it was both, but the real reason was an influential blogger created a buzz, and that buzz spread across the blogosphere overnight, making a huge splash. At one pont the largest and most popular search in Technorati was his made up word. Power? Influence? I’ll let you decide. Robert, if you can continue to increase my traffic 25% each day with a new made up word, I’ll bet I can learn a new language, but for now, here is to the power of Scoble.

The real demonstration of power, though, will be once the buzz has died down: will your traffic go back down, or will it really have earned you new readers?
That’s where it gets interesting.
In my experience, traffic spikes have less effect than simply trudging along, day by day, doing one’s best to be a good blogger.
But then, maybe my traffic spikes never reached “critical height”.
Actually is a word for weather reports from the far north brrr report … get it?
Gee I didn’t get that much of a traffic boost … sigh
