Technorati and Frustration

I have a personal blog called Genuine where the link count according to Technorati is 685 links from 538 sources. These numbers have not changed in 3 months. It has never updated in that time. I write to the support people and they tell me, “Mr. Turner, your link count is 685 links from 538 sources.” I write them back affirming this fact and “I understand what the links say, they have been those same two numbers for three months!”As you can tell, I have very little confidence in those numbers being the actual numbers. Check with me a month from now, I would be willing to bet those two numbers have not changed.Stowe Boyd has been dealing with the same problems with Technorati’s link counts. Apparently, he has discovered that Technorati has access to a database that has a history of the links to a URL. As more and more blogs enter the arena, we are seeing more and more problems with tracking technology being able to continue to keep pace with the demand of information. I rarely use Technorati for measuring the information I used to glean from their numbers. There are many other services available now that don’t give me as much frustration.

Well I can tell you that in the last three months I’ve added you to my blogroll. now there could be someone who has “un” linked you, I still think it’s off.

What are those other services, anyway?

Technorati keeps updating me – but the numbers still look low, especially when I visit sites that have linked me yet don’t show up in Technorati.

At least they’re giving me error messages complaining of ‘overloaded capacity’ before my searches time out, though..

I’m with Betsy, “What are those others services?”. I have had no luck with Technorati, find it a very frustrating site. Pretty much 50% of the time I get a “the server is experiencing a high volume of traffic, please try again in a short while message.”
