I have seen some real wrecks as those companies merge into the social media freeway. It took me a year just to call myself a blogging consultant, and I was still not sure I was doing it right. I spent at least a year cultivating a following and a community before I felt comfortable calling myself a daddy blogger. I wait until they put water in the pool before I jump off the diving board in the deep end of the pool. I'm spouting so many metaphors today! Thanks for the comment Doug. Welcome to the on ramp of social media.

We live in the day and age of shortcuts. The companies who last are the ones that stick it out and work hard. Auto-following 2000 people might make you look big for awhile but its not sustainable. Sadly most people don't understand this or think they're exempt from it. It's the reason that scammers still make money from phishing emails, people are eager for the million dollar shortcut. Almost no one makes a million without investing a ton of time and effort no matter how lucky they got when their niche took off.
