Jeff Jarvis thinks it’s time for a measurement summit to help figure out how to measure the new world of social media.
I think it’s time for a measurement summit: Bring together the measurement companies, the advertisers and their agencies (buyers), the sites’ reps (sellers), the media sites, and technology companies and let’s hammer out some standards and methods for measurement. This will only work if we have open standards with analytics (like Comscore and Nielsen) building value atop that common data. Otherwise, we end up in a world that will continue to confuse and scare advertisers — and their money — away.

Well Jeff, I might not be in any of the groups you mentioned above, but I’d love to be a part of it. Blog metrics is something that I think a lot about. How do we determine a “successful” blog? What is the right measurement for learning if a blog is reaching enough of its target audience. Right now for our clients we use an arsenal of tools from FeedBurner to Google Analytics and a few tricks up our sleeves.
Still a lot of back of the envelope stuff and assumptions right now. Yep, we need to try to figure something out.
