So your business has a website. Great. That’s a cornerstone of business now. You just have to have one. Now the question is a blog. Should you have one? Do you need one? Lee Hopkins makes a powerful case for a blog as the better traffic driver to your business than just a traditional website.
You might say, but I have nothing to write about. Sure, you might think that’s true, but it’s probably not. Let’s put the daily writing part away for a moment. Let’s talk efficiency. On of One By One Media’s clients is my own lawyer. Their site isn’t complete, and they might not be quite be ready for prime time, but I know they are working on it. We worked to redo their whole website using Wordpress. Simple transition. Now they can edit all their content themselves. Perfect. What about the blog portion? They will be getting into that, but for your business consider the blog portion for announcements, press releases, updates. These are the things your customers are looking for and a blog will just plain and simple get that information out there faster.
If you’re serious about using the Internet in your business, and you aren’t happy with the kind of traffic you’re getting (especially from search engines), a blog is the only way to go. Period.

G’day!
Thanks for your kind comments about my post. In fact, your work with your lawyer has solved a problem for me — a friend insists he doesn’t want a blog, but a traditional website.
I hadn’t thought of using Wordpress for that, but your lawyer’s site shows that it is perfectly possible to do that AND have a sensible, easily-navigable navigation sidebar at the same time.
Thanks!
Lee
You’re welcome Lee. The secret, okay it’s not a secret anymore, is to use a WP plugin to make a Page the homepage and still have the blog.
Makes it a “site” and a “blog”!
Thanks, Triss — what’s that wordpress plugin, then?
It’s called Home Page Control. Sorry I can’t find the link for it Lee.
No worries Tris; I’ll search around for it.
Cheers, mate!
Making a decent living from home is not only simple, but thousands of average people are successfully doing everyday.
