Blog advertising is becoming more and more prevalent in the blogging world, and online advertising is skyrocketing. We use online advertising here at One By One and at Bloggers For Hire as a way to help offset costs related to our blog. Many bloggers are supplementing their incomes based upon the advertising they do on their blogs and some even go one step further and make a nice living using such an advertising service.Perhaps the latest in online advertising bombs to be tossed into the blogging world is the recent audited revenue reported by Chitika.
This company came on to the scene with a bang, touting higher earnings than the people at Google Adsense. Many new users signed up for the service with dollar signs in their eyes about the pay earned from click through rates (CTR) and from the referral program recently launched by Chitika and their highly used eMiniMalls.Apparently, the bandwagon is getting less crowded as people login to their account to see the numbers that are revealed in the October earnings for audited revenue. Many people are appalled at the audit figures and they are seeing rates drop anywhere from 10% to a whopping 90% of the unaudited amounts.I too have seen a drop in revenue, but then most of my Chitika Ads are all on long tail posts.
I have been testing and reviewing an ad service provided by Qumana called Adgenta. I would bet that Chitika, unless they can stop the bleeding, will see a mass exodus of publishers. I’ll be following along with their blog to see how they handle this PR mess. At least they have a blog!
