How do you define cheap hits to your blog? Perhaps mentioning naked pictures of Angelina Jolie, or talking about sex with Jennifer Aniston would give a clue about how to get cheap hits. Wayne Hurlbert discusses cheap hits on his blog, Blog Business World. Wayne refers to the cheap hits as “off topic searches”. With all due respect to Wayne who is a dynamite blogger, and one of my daily reads, I have a different take on the subject.
By thinking about off topic searches or cheap hits as eyeballs rather than blog readers, it is important to advertisers to get as many eyeballs as possible to see the online ads they pay for that are placed on blogs. If you have an advertiser that is wanting to have his ad seen by 1000 visitors a day on your blog, he may not place that ad if you don’t have that number of eyeballs visiting each day. The cheap hits provide more eyeballs for that advertiser. The advertiser could care less if that is a 35 year old businessman or a 35 year old pervert looking for naked pictures of Jessica Simpson. Not that it is impossible they are the same man, I’m just saying.
As a blogger earning money from advertisements placed in content, if I have a placed ad and a surfer visits as a result of a cheap hit perhaps about mentioning a naked video of Shania Twain, there is always the chance there could be an ad that person sees that causes him to click. He might be a pervert, but some perverts even have normal lives and are normal consumers and customers. Sorry Wayne, but I might make 10 cents off that off topic search, and all I have to do is get a million of those and it might even be worth it. Okay, so maybe I just wanted to see if I could get another 4-5 hits. If you’re a pervert sorry for wasting your time.
