Blogging Bullwinkle

MT%20logo%20transp.jpg Not exactly the Bullwinkle I grew up with, but Denali is blogging! After visiting the main page, you may be confused about where to find the company’s blogs. From it’s main flash page, you are not directed to a link to any of its blogs. On the other hand, the blogs are linked to the main site. A bit of free advice to the people at Denali, please put a link to your blogs on your main flash page.Apart from the confusion on how to find their blogs, they are doing well with the blog according to a report from Heather Green at BusinessWeek’s Blogspotting. She states in her report:

Apparently for all of $700, John Nardini, the company’s vice president of marketing, created four blogs to hit different consumer interests. Of course, this doesn’t include the cose (sic) of blogging time. But they say they’re having a positive impact on drawing people to Denali’s main Web site. According to Denali pr, site visits are up 25.7% while the total time spent on the site is up 23.4%.

The blogs that are under the Denali wing are: Moosetopia Team Moose Tracks Free Money Finance Denali Flavors The latter of the four blogs is the corporate blog that seems to be Denali’s flagship. The Free Money Finance Blog appears to be merely a sponsored blog of Denali’s, but no further information is given about that relationship. With the exception of Denali Flavors, the company blog, the other two blogs run by Denali do not seem to be updated often nor do they have much content. It is difficult to know the reasons behind their lack of posting, but I would venture a guess that it comes down to time and effort on the part of someone within the company. I for one know it can be difficult to come up with a blog post everyday for more than one blog. Ads by AdGenta.com I think for the company to be successful with their campaign, they must either eliminate the other two blogs and concentrate on filling their main blog with content, or they should set aside time and money to make sure that all of the blogs are producing well written content for their readers and customers. It can be difficult to come up with keyword rich content for a single blog everyday and even more difficult for a blogger to provide content for numerous blogs. I know a few people that are professional bloggers and their task can be treacherous each day to fill each of the blogs where they post. I know I have dropped the ball on more than one occasion on the many blogs that I post to each day. My solution to this problem is very self serving. I have professional bloggers providing my site with content each day. The posts are well written, on topic, and rich in keywords and links that allow me to make a presence in a medium where I would not have normally been able to shine. I would suggest again that Denali eliminate a blog or two, or perhaps look into a blogger for hire. A blogger can be contracted for a time certain to eliminate the hassle of hiring and firing personnel. The company need not pay benefits, provide office space, or otherwise worry about a blog employee. All of this is provided for a fraction of what it would take in expenses for a company to hire a blog expert. Until then, bravo to the people at Denali and good luck and happy blogging.

    Jim –

Thanks for the coverage. To answer a couple of your questions:

    1. Team Moose Tracks and Moosetopia have been rolled under http://www.denaliflavors.com. You’re correct in saying time was an issue. Maintaining three blogs getting very small traffic is just not worth the time investment while maintaining a bigger one that gets decent traffic is. Plus, the topics in the other two can logically fit under the Denali blog, so why have three when one will do? (To make matters more confusing, Team Moose Tracks is likely to split out again in the spring as our team gears up to raise more money for charity.)

    2. As far as Free Money Finance goes, it’s a site that the company lets me run (and post during work time) in exchange for the premier sponsorship/ad on the site (which drives people back to the company’s main site at http://www.moosetracks.com).

    Hope this explanation helps!
